Shirley Albrecht
Shirley an accomplished Administrative Coordinator with significant experience overseeing operations including customer service, shipping and logistics, scheduling and program coordination, documentation, correspondence, and project management. A strategic planner who assesses customer requirements and concerns in order to implement solutions to increase efficiency, optimize existing processes, and maximize productivity. An articulate communicator and respected leader who motivates others to continuously improve performance in order to exceed set goals and further the mission of the organization. Shirley has a natural gift of organization, along with a fine attention to detail, embracing a “team” environment and increasing levels of responsibility has been the cornerstone for longevity in our workplace.
Elaine Heffernan, B.A, C.P.C
Elaine ss a former Practice Administrator in the healthcare field. She specializes in all aspects of Practice Management, Profit and Loss, Marketing, Regulatory Compliance, Operational Analysis, Electronic Medical Records, Information Technology and Process Improvement and Implementation. She has been in healthcare for more than 30 years and held leadership roles with solo practices, multi-location practices and multi-specialty groups with emphasis in Ophthalmology for more than 13 years. She is extremely self motivated, results oriented individual who works well under pressure and enjoys sharing her knowledge with everyone she works with.
Elaine received her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University, continued her education at University of Alabama with an emphasis in healthcare for special needs children. Elaine holds certificates as a Certified Medical Practice Executive from the American College of Medical Practice Executives, Certified Professional Coder from the American Academy of Professional Coders, Certified Medical Scribe from the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists and Certified Thermographic Technician from the Southeastern Neuroscience Institute.
Elaine is an active member of American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, where she has actively participated in task forces, committees, mentoring and chair of the Administrative EyeCare publication. She is also an active member of her AAPC chapter where she previously held the position of Vice President. She is a member of MGMA.
Marilyn Ponder, D.B.A
Dr. Marilyn Ponder possesses more than 20 years of Ophthalmology experience that began while serving in the US Army, where she uniquely trained as an Eye Specialist. After departing the Army, she moved to private practice serving in several ophthalmic capacities ranging from technician, optician, clinic manager, and practice administrator. She also serves as an adjunct professor, teaching career development, strategic staffing, and human resource development courses.
Dr. Marilyn Ponder has extensive management experience holding a Masters in Management (MM) and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) with a concentration in Management. She authored a dissertation titled, " The relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership style among Ophthalmic Practice Administrators." Additionally, she has authored "Leadership Lessons" from a practice administrator's perspective, found in the industry-specific magazine Ophthalmology Business Minute. This series of articles focuses on providing tips to aid leaders in improving their application of emotionally intelligent competencies in the workplace. Her stated focus is transforming teams through emotionally intelligent leadership.
Jim Rienzo
Jim spent a large part of his career with the Eye Care Business Advisory Group of Allergan, Inc., an eye care company, now part of Abbvie.
Mr. Rienzo advises with medical practices, physician networks, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), teaching institutions, and health maintenance organizations throughout the United States. Areas he advises in include M&A, marketing, strategic planning, practice efficiency, market analysis, and succession planning. Mr. Rienzo is particularly well-versed in practice valuations and acquisitions, new physician integration, and succession planning and private equity integration.
Prior to joining the Eye Care Business Advisory Group, Mr. Rienzo spent seven years with Allergan, Inc., in therapeutic and surgical sales and in field sales training. Before that, he worked for two years in marketing planning and business development at a New York advertising agency and media firm. Mr. Rienzo received his BA in business management from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, with a minor emphasis in music. He has lectured for various medical practices and teaching institutions in the northeastern United States, as well as AAO, ASCRS and state ophthalmology societies.
Mr. Rienzo has written numerous articles for various industry publications, including Ophthalmology Management, Ophthalmology Times, Eye World, Review of Ophthalmology and Administrative Eyecare. In addition, he was the chairman of the practice management program for the Wilmer Current Concepts meeting and has moderated the practice management session at the Wills Eye Meeting.
Gena Asuncion, C.O.A
Gina has over 12 years of progressive experience in ophthalmology. She has worked in the DMV region for many years in health systems, private practice and NEI
Gena is a member of the Joint Commission of Allied Health Professionals in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and Allied Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology (ATPO).
